South Oxfordshire Quiz League
Competition Rules 2011–2012
- Each team has six members.
- The minimum number of team members shall be four.
- The organiser of the home team will arrange the fixture, contact the questionmaster and organise a scorer, unless the questionmaster is happy to bring one.
- Each quiz will consist of nine rounds plus one 'quick question' round. The quiz will start with the quick question round.
- The quick question round will consist of twelve questions, answered within one and a half minutes, with no passing.
- Questions in the main ten rounds will be answered alternately by each team, apart from the quick question round, in which each team will receive all twelve questions consecutively.
- The quick question round will score one point for each correct answer.
- In all other rounds, the person asked the question will score two points for a correct answer. If the question is passed to another nominated member of the same team and answered correctly then one point will be scored. If the question is answered incorrectly, or the team is unable to answer the question, the question will be passed to the other team, which will score one point for a correct answer.
- Once a team member starts to answer a question, he or she must complete it. The question cannot then be passed to another member of the team.
- If a team is 'under strength' then team members may answer the questions which would have been allocated to the 'missing' members, but may only score one point for those questions.
- The final round should not be specialised.
- The questionmaster's word is final in disputes.
- The questionmaster will aim to conclude the quiz by 10.00 p.m.
- All matches in the league should be completed by 1 May 2012. If it is necessary for any match to be scheduled later than this, the date of that match must be agreed before 1st May.
- In the event of a tie on points between two or more teams when all possible fixtures have been played, the league championship will be awarded to the team that won the encounter (or most encounters) between the tied teams. Should that fail to produce a winner, the champions will be the team scoring the most points (in matches) in all their fixtures and then, if necessary, the team with the greatest difference in points scored and points scored against.
